About riding in Oregon
Oregon offers dramatic variety: the Pacific coast, the Willamette Valley's vineyards and farmland, the Cascade mountains and high desert to the east. Summers are dry and pleasant east of the Cascades, while the west side is wet outside of summer. The best season is late spring through early fall.
Estimated finish times
The route is about 298 miles. Here is the moving time at a steady average speed. It is a flat-ground baseline: climbing, wind, stops at aid stations and group riding all move the real number, so treat it as a starting range.
| Average speed | Moving time |
|---|---|
| 10 mph | 29h 48m |
| 12 mph | 24h 50m |
| 14 mph | 21h 17m |
| 16 mph | 18h 38m |
| 18 mph | 16h 33m |
Most recreational riders average 12–16 mph on rolling terrain in a group, and less on hilly routes.
